New Car Service in Deception Bay

At Bay Tyre & Automotive, we are proud to support good local families who are passionate about motorsport and work hard to compete alongside the big-budget teams. Steve and Kerrie Cini’s journey with their iconic 1973 Ford Falcon XB Hardtop is a story of family, dedication, friendship and a lifelong love of horsepower. We’re pleased to share part of their journey with our customers and celebrate the commitment it takes to keep a grassroots racing team performing both on and off the track. A Lifetime of Horsepower, Family and Fast Times Some cars come and go. Others become part of the family.

For Steve Cini, his 1973 Ford Falcon XB Hardtop has been much more than a car. It has been a lifelong passion, a drag racing weapon, a family adventure machine and a source of countless memories spanning more than three decades The story began in 1989 when Steve purchased the XB as a daily driver at just 19 years of age. Like many young enthusiasts, he loved the iconic Australian muscle car, but at the time it was simply his transport. As the years passed and the Falcon began showing signs that it needed a major overhaul, Steve decided this was the perfect opportunity to build the car he had always dreamed about. The original colour was retired in favour of a stunning Metallic Cobalt Blue finish, giving the hardtop a striking appearance that still turns heads today. More importantly, the transformation marked the beginning of Steve's ambition to create a genuine drag car From Street Car to Serious Drag Car In the early days at the heart of the XB sits a blown 460 cubic inch engine which ran a carburettor setup. The combination delivered serious horsepower while maintaining the classic mechanical character that Steve has always loved. From the beginning, his vision was simple—build a tough blown Falcon that could be driven on the street, raced at the track and proudly displayed at car shows. Throughout the 1990s the Falcon became a regular sight at Brisbane Hot Rod events and various car shows around Queensland. In 1996 the XB was featured in Street Heat Magazine and it’s Calendar which was a great recognition for Steve’s dedication and a dream come true. Another highlight of that year was when Steve, accompanied by his wife Kerrie—and a group of friends, towed the XB to Canberra for Summernats. The trip remains one of Steve's favourite memories. Summernats was an incredible experience, cruising with like-minded people, seeing some of Australia's best cars and being part of such a huge event really reinforced why we loved the car scene. And we came 2nd Runner Up in the Stereo Soundoff which really put a smile on all our faces. A Car That Became Part of the Family As the years rolled on and family life became the priority, the XB remained at the centre of many adventures. Rather than slowing down, the Falcon became a way for Steve and Kerrie to share their passion with their children and friends. Events such as Powercruise, Lakeside Park, Chrome Bumper Days and All Aussie Days created countless opportunities to spend quality time together. Cruising lap after lap with family and friends became just as rewarding as the car itself. In more recent years, Steve's focus has shifted increasingly toward drag racing at Willowbank Raceway. Like any successful race car, the XB has undergone continuous development and refinement. Countless hours by Steve who could always text and Andrew, and Darren would appear in the workshop when needed, numerous upgrades and ongoing modifications have steadily improved the Falcon's performance. The hard work has paid off. Today the blown hardtop has recorded impressive personal bests of 8.60 seconds over the quarter mile and 5.50 seconds over the eighth mile at Dragfest. Those achievements represent years of dedication, testing and perseverance. The ultimate reward arrived in 2025 when Steve achieved his first major drag racing event win—a milestone that validated decades of commitment to the sport and the car. The People Behind the Race Car Behind every successful race car is a strong support network, and Steve & Kerrie would like to acknowledge those who have helped along the journey. A special thank you goes to Tony at Bay Tyre & Automotive, whose ongoing support with wheel alignments has helped keep the Falcon performing at its best both on the street and at the track. Steve & Kerrie would also like to sincerely thank and acknowledge Andrew, Darren and our son Jayden, who have played important roles in helping keep the Falcon performing at its best through expert technical and hands on support both at the track and behind the scenes. The XB Today Today the XB Hardtop is powered by a blown 530 cubic inch engine featuring a fourbolt main block, diamond forged pistons, SCJ aluminium cylinder heads, a 10/71 supercharger and enderle mechanical fuel injection. Power is delivered through a rollerised C6 transmission fitted with a Frank Merkle transbrake and transferred to a full- floating nine-inch differential with 40 spline axles. Supported by AFCO shocks, Wilwood brakes, Racepak data logging and a six-point chrome moly roll cage, the XB continues to evolve as a serious drag car. For Steve and Kerrie, however, the Falcon represents far more than quarter-mile times and horsepower figures. It is the result of decades of passion, hard work and the support of family and friends. It is a car that has grown alongside their family, travelled across Australia and created memories that will last a lifetime. Follow Steve & Kerrie Racing and keep up with their latest racing adventures on Facebook.

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Bay Tyre & Automotive in Deception Bay, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Bay Tyre & Automotive, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Bay Tyre & Automotive for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

Tyres influence nearly every aspect of your vehicle’s handling, comfort and safety. At Bay Tyre & Automotive in Deception Bay, our tyre supply and service offering helps ensure your car is equipped with the right tyres, fitted correctly and maintained for maximum life and performance.

This guide explains how tyres work, how to spot issues early, which tyre sizes suit popular vehicles and why proper tyre maintenace matters — especially in the unique driving conditions around Deception Bay and the wider Australian environment. What Tyres Actually Do Tyres do much more than simply roll along the road. They: Provide grip for steering and braking Absorb bumps and impact for a smoother ride Support the vehicle’s weight Assist with fuel efficiency Keep your vehicle stable in wet or uneven conditions Because tyres are the only contact point between your vehicle and the road, their condition directly affects safety. Common Symptoms Your Tyres Need Service or Replacement If you notice any of the following, it may be time to visit Bay Tyre & Automotive: Uneven tread wear – can indicate incorrect pressure or alignment issues. Vibrations while driving – often due to wheel imbalance or internal tyre damage. Cracks or bulges – signs of ageing rubber or impact damage. Poor grip in wet weather – worn tread reduces traction. Pulling to one side – may be caused by uneven wear or incorrect alignment. Ignoring these signs could affect braking distance, handling and overall driving safety. Tyre Sizes That Suit Popular Australian Vehicles Choosing the correct tyre size is critical. Here’s a quick look at common tyre sizes for well-known vehicles (always check your placard or owner’s manual for your exact model): Toyota Corolla – often uses 195/65R15 or 205/55R16 Toyota HiLux – commonly fitted with 265/65R17 or 265/70R16 Mazda CX‑5 – typically 225/55R19 or 225/65R17 Hyundai i30 – usually 205/55R16 or 225/40R18 At Bay Tyre & Automotive, we supply a wide range of brands suited for Australian roads, including premium touring tyres, durable 4x4 tyres and fuel-efficient options for commuters. How Tyre Issues Affect Other Vehicle Systems A problem with your tyres can have a domino effect: Suspension wear – bad tyres can stress shocks, struts and bushes. Reduced braking performance – worn tyres increase stopping distance. Poor fuel economy – incorrect pressure creates drag. Steering system strain – misalignment and uneven wear put extra load on components. Keeping tyres healthy protects the rest of your vehicle too. Benefits of Professional Tyre Supply & Service Bay Tyre & Automotive Expert advice on the right tyre for your driving needs Correct fitting and balancing to reduce vibration and premature wear Wheel alignment for improved handling and tyre life Access to trusted Repco parts and nationwide warranty support Better safety, comfort and fuel efficiency Quick Tips to Prevent Tyre Problems Check tyre pressure every 2–4 weeks Inspect tread regularly Rotate tyres every 10,000 km Avoid hitting potholes or kerbs Ensure prompt repair for punctures Get your alignment checked annually or after impacts Car Tyres FAQs How long do tyres usually last? Most tyres last 40,000–60,000 km, depending on driving style, road conditions and maintenance. Do all tyres fit all cars? No — tyres must match specific size, load and speed ratings suitable for your vehicle. What tyre pressure should I use? Follow the tyre placard (usually inside the driver’s door). Pressures vary depending on vehicle load and driving conditions. Can I replace just one tyre? It’s possible but not ideal. For stability, two or four tyres should match. Your mechanic will advise the safest option.
